Getting Started
Where do I begin with Routi?โ–พ

We recommend starting with the Routine Overview to understand how our four systems work together. Then pick just one routine to start โ€” most people begin with the Evening Reset because it's only 10 minutes and delivers immediate, visible results the next morning.

Do I need to implement all four routines at once?โ–พ

Absolutely not. We recommend our progressive loading approach: start with one routine, do it every day for two weeks, then add the next. Trying to change everything at once is the most common reason kitchen habits fail.

How much time does a Routi routine require each day?โ–พ

The evening reset takes 10 minutes. The morning routine takes 15โ€“25 minutes. Meal prep takes 60โ€“90 minutes once or twice a week. The weekly checklist takes 20 minutes on Sunday. In total, Routi routines add about 30โ€“40 minutes of intentional kitchen time per day โ€” but they save you 45โ€“90 minutes of chaotic, unplanned cooking.

Is Routi suitable for people who don't enjoy cooking?โ–พ

Yes โ€” actually, Routi is specifically designed for this. Many of our most enthusiastic members started as people who found cooking stressful or unenjoyable. The routines are designed to reduce friction, not add to it. When your kitchen is organized and your meals are planned, cooking becomes genuinely easier and more satisfying.

Routines
What if I miss a day of my routine?โ–พ

One missed day is completely normal. The key is our 2-Day Rule: never miss the same habit twice in a row. If you miss Monday, Tuesday is non-negotiable. On tough days, fall back to the "One Thing" version of your routine โ€” do just one task. That's enough to maintain continuity.

Can I customize the routines?โ–พ

Yes, and we encourage it. Our routines are templates, not rigid prescriptions. The structure and sequence are important, but the specific actions within each step should be adapted to your kitchen, your schedule, and your household. The weekly checklist is especially easy to customize.

The morning routine feels too long for me. What should I do?โ–พ

Use the Level 2 (Minimum) version of the routine. On busy mornings, this means: make your drink, eat something, leave the kitchen clean. Three actions. Once these are automatic, you can add more steps back in as capacity grows.

Meal Prep
How long does food last after meal prepping?โ–พ

Most cooked proteins and grains last 4โ€“5 days refrigerated in sealed containers. Roasted vegetables last 4โ€“5 days. Fresh salad components last 2โ€“3 days (dress separately). Soups and stews last 5โ€“6 days. Anything beyond Wednesday's needs should be frozen immediately after cooling.

I only cook for one person. Is meal prep worth it?โ–พ

Absolutely. Cooking for one can actually make meal prep more valuable โ€” smaller quantities mean greater variety. Prep two proteins, two vegetable sides, and one grain base in 45 minutes, and you have five different meals for the week just by mixing and matching.

Do I need special containers for meal prep?โ–พ

Glass containers with clip lids are strongly recommended. They preserve flavor better than plastic, are microwave and oven safe, and allow you to see your contents at a glance. A 10-piece glass set covers all your meal prep needs. See our Kitchen Tools guide for specific recommendations.

Habits & Mindset
How long does it take for a kitchen habit to become automatic?โ–พ

Research suggests between 21 and 66 days depending on complexity and personal factors. Simple habits (like wiping the counter) automate faster; complex ones (like a full Sunday meal prep session) take longer. Our Consistency Framework includes a 21-day streak tracker to help you stay on course.

I feel like I'm starting over every week. What am I doing wrong?โ–พ

This usually means your routine is too complex for where you are right now. Reduce to a single, one-minute habit and do that alone for two weeks. Then add one more. Consistency with a tiny habit always beats intermittent attempts at a big one.
